Make it a point to set aside one day each week or two to restock the kitchen. For instance one great time saver recipe is the homemade pie crust. In order to save time in preparing it, make a large batch of dough and roll out several at a time and stack them in the freezer and pull them out for a quick dinner anytime. Fill the crust with spaghetti for spaghetti pie, browned meat and vegetables for a pot pie or any other combination of foods that you can think of.
Next strategy is to be creative with how you present them at the dinner table. Kids would love decorated food like for instance a face or other recognizable shape. Although this may seem to add time and effort during the preparation but there meals which can be prepared and decorated easily and in no time. For instance, the mini English muffin pizzas can be quickly decorated with some pepperoni eyes and a green pepper smile so are the pancakes with faces of fresh fruit. Also sandwiches can shape in a lot of ways with the use of a cookie cutter. Getting kids to try new foods is easier when undertaken one item at a time. When serving a new main dish, stick to a vegetable that the kids love. If it’s a new fruit or vegetable, provide a tried and true favorite for the main course.
Another effective strategy is to disguise them. For instance, a variety of healthy vegetables can be blended into kids’ favorite dishes like spaghetti. One excellent example is combining carrots and broccoli that has been steamed, pureed and cooked with marinara sauce. The consistency is almost identical, and when mixed with the sauce and topped with parmesan cheese, the kids would not even know it. Another would be Turkey Tacos. Instead of serving ground beef inside those crunchy shells use lean ground turkey instead since these two tastes identical especially with the blend of spices mixed in with the meat.
Meatloaf another meal where parents can sneak in healthy ingredients without the kids realizing it.
